I'm gonna be a beekeeper, what could possibly go wrong?
You know the saying, "You can't win if you don't play"? Well, I entered a contest and won the Ultimate Giveaway from Harvest Lane Honey! I would have never thought I would have won, but the boxes showed up today and my dream is becoming reality. Their packaging is so cute! I can't wait to get in to the box, but I think I want to do an unboxing video :)
I'm gonna be a beekeeper, what could possibly go wrong?
The second I found out I had won, I started preparing a place in our yard. The bee boxes have to face a certain direction, be near a water source, get a certain amount of sun and the list goes on. I still have a long ways to go to be ready, but I think I don't get the actual bees until April (10,000 to be exact). I have been planting seeds to get some starter plants going and working on clearing weeds and planning out how this space will function.
We have a lot of unused space in our yard, so I think the spot I have chosen the bees won't get disturbed and can fly up and out and not in to our neighbors yard!
There is a big learning curve, so I have been reading everything I can get my hands on and watching every YouTube video to try and learn from others.

We have a large pond out front, but I don't want the bees to have to go that far, so I will need to set-up a new water feature asap. This needs to be in place before the bees arrive. I have about one month, so wish me luck with all my weed pulling, planting and pond making to get ready for these little girls!
Be sure to follow @EpiTamioflife on Instagram to follow me on this journey. (Hopefully I will get a YouTube channel set up too!)
NOTE: Backyard beekeeping was legalized in Los Angeles County in October 2015, but be sure to check the local laws in your area before you enter a contest and win a bunch of bees!

Whoawza Momma 🐝 Bee, you sure have taken on a giant project. I’m so excited for you!!! I can’t wait to read your next update. Xoxo Jessie
